Premier League’s Top Attacking Threats: Who Leads the G+A Charts in 2024-2025?

In this post, we dive into the top attacking threats of the Premier League so far this 2024-2025 season. There are many players who score goals and many players who assist goals. But who are those contributors who have the most goals and assists combined?

We’ve created a list of the top 5 attacking threats measured by an individual’s combined goals and assists. To note, the list includes six players as we have two players tied for third place. There are some obvious names on this list but also a few unexpected names that maybe you wouldn’t expect to rank so high.

In addition to the list, we’ll provide some high level statistics for each player and a comparison against their competitors who also made the list. Lastly, all data is as of January 5, 2025, so when you’re reading this article, keep in mind that things would have since changed.

With that being said, let’s dive into it and get started.

Scoring Goals, Creating Chances: The Premier League’s Top Attackers, Ranked

For starters, below is the list of the top attacking threats in the Premier League, ranked by an individual’s combined goal and assist contribution. For reference, we also included the number of 90-minutes (i.e., total games) a player has played (determined by taking the each players total minutes played divided by 90-minutes) as well as each players G+A metric per match.

While some players have played more games than others, the G+A per match metric provides some insights as to who are contributing the most per game, not just overall.

Secondly, we provide the above table in a graphical format. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. The graph below really underlines just how much further ahead Salah is than the rest of the leaders.

It also provides a good visual as to what each players G+A total consists of. For example, Haaland’s is almost all goals, Palmer has double the goals than assists, while Saka has double assists when compared to goals.

The third visual is each player’s proportion of goals and assists. And similar to the graph above, it provides a quick way of displaying a lot of data. For example, 68% of Palmer’s total direct contributions have been in the form of goals, while 32% have been in the form of assists.

Mohamed Salah: The Premier League’s Top Scorer and Playmaker

To no one’s surprise, Mohamed Salah sits at the top of the list with a staggering 18 goals and 13 assists so far this 2024-2025 Premier League season. Not only does Salah lead the league in goals, but he also has the most assists.

In total, he has been directly involved in over 31 goals for Liverpool this season which is approximately 66% of all of Liverpool’s goals. On a per 90 minute basis, Salah is averaging a combined 1.67 goals or assists every game. Or in other words, about every 55 minutes of match time Salah is scoring or assisting.

With Liverpool currently first place in the Premier League with 6-points clear and a game in hand, it is hard to imagine that they would be in the same position if f Salah wasn’t in their team. In the 19 games he’s played this season, he already has more goal and assist contributions than the 32 games he played last season. Last season he scored 18 and assisted 10.

Cole Palmer: Chelsea’s Rising Star in the G+A Rankings

Cole Palmer is having another standout season and playing a large part in Chelsea’s success so far. In the Premier League he has 13 goals and 6 assists, for a total of 19 goal involvements.

Chelsea has 39 goals for so far this season after 20 games played. This results in Palmer being involved in about 49% of all of Chelsea’s goals. Furthermore, with Palmer starting all of Chelsea’s 20 games so far, he is averaging about a goal or an assist per game.

When compared to his impressive season last year, Cole Palmer’s average goals and assists metrics per game are slightly behind. In the 2023-2024 season, he had 22 goals and 11 assists in the Premier League, for an average of 1.14 per game.

Erling Haaland: Man City’s Goal Machine and Assist Gap

With Haaland’s dominant goal threat, he is one of those players who most expect to be at the top of any leaderboard that involves goals and assists. This season is no different, with 16 goals scored and one assist made.

Haaland’s impressive goal scoring record has him averaging about 0.8 goals per game (or essentially, a goal about every 1.25 games). However, an attacking metric that he is lacking in this season is assits. In the first 20 games, Haaland has just one assist. For reference, he had 5 assists in the 31 Premier League games he played in last season. For comparison, that is about an assist every 6.2 games last season.

City have 36 goals for after the first 20 games this season, meaning Haaland has been involved in 47% of all of Manchester City’s goals. In total, Erling Haaland is averaging a goal or an assist every 1.18 games this season.

Alexander Isak: Newcastle’s Underrated Attacking Powerhouse

A player who maybe doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves is Alexander Isak. He’s scored 13 goals this season and assisted 4, meaning he’s been directly involved in 17 goals, the same as Haaland.

While Haaland has played in 20 games this Premier League season, Isak has only played in 18 games, meaning he’s averaging a goal or an assist every 0.95 games. Put simply, he’s averaging more than one goal or assist every game, which is a very impressive statistic. To date, there are only four players in the Premier League which that statistic applies to (Salah, Saka, Duran and Isak).

With Newcastle’s 34 goals for this season so far, Isak has been directly involved in 50% of them. When comparing Alexander Isak’s form against previous seasons, he is on track to have his best season yet. In the 30 games he played in the 23-24 season, he scored 21 goals and had two assists (directly involved in 23 goals). To recap, he’s already at 17 this season after only 18 games played.

Bryan Mbeumo: Brentford’s Surprise Goal Contribution Leader

Bryan Mbeumo is leading the charge for Brentford so far this season with 13 goals and 3 assist after taking part in all 20 Brentford Premier League games. With 16 direct contributions to goals this season, Mbeumo currently sits fourth in the league for goals plus assists.

To note, Mbeumo already has one more direct contribution (goal or assist) after 20 games than in the 25 matches he played last season. Brentford have scored 38 goals so far this season, meaning Mbuemo has been directly involved in 42% of their goals. Based on his statistics so far, Bryan Mbeumo has contributed a goal or an assist every 1.25 games on average.

Additionally, Mbeumo’s xG (expected goals) so far this season is 6.3. With 13 goals scored, he’s scored 6.7 more goals than expected to. This goals minus xG rating is currently the highest in the Premier League. Bukayo Saka: Arsenal’s Dual Threat Despite Injury Struggles

Lastly is Saka, who is currently ranked in 5th position for the most combined goals and assists so far this season with 15. His 15 direct contributions are split between 5 goals and 10 assists, the only player in the top 5 who has more assists than goals. Per 90 minutes, Bukayo Saka is averaging 1.06 goals and assists per game. Which means, on average, every game so far he has scored or assisted.

Given Saka’s recent injury problems, he’s managed to secure 5th place while only being involved in 16 of Arsenal’s 20 games so far this season. Furthermore and despite missing matches due to injury, Saka has been directly involved in 38% of Arsenal’s total goals (they have 38 goals so far this season).

Summary
