Danny Welbeck is a well known name in the English Premier League. At the time of writing this article, he’s played in 18 Premier League seasons. First starting in 2008-2009 for Manchester United, up to the current 2025-2026 season for Brighton.
Throughout those 18 seasons in the Premier League, he’s played for five different clubs. While he’s now one of the oldest players in the league, his form isn’t reflecting that. If anything, he’s gotten better with age. Especially so far in the current 25-26 season.
In this article we provide a quick overview on Danny Welbeck’s career and focus in on his recent goal scoring form, which if he keeps fit, puts him on track to have one of his best seasons yet.
Danny Welbeck’s Age and Goals Per 90-min in the Premier League
At the time of writing this article in December 2025, Danny Welbeck is the 10th oldest player in the Premier League. Welbeck was born in 1990 and is currently 35-years old.
His goal average per 90-minutes is graphed below for each season he’s played. As seen, the graph is on an upwards trajectory right now.
His highest goals per 90-minutes is a bit misleading, which dates back to the 08-09 season where he scored 1 goal in 118-minutes or about 0.76-goals per 90-minutes.
However, when discounting that first season, the current 25-26 Premier League season is Welbeck’s highest goals per 90-minutes ratio of his career. Currently he is at 0.64 goals per 90-minutes at the time of writing this article (data as of December 19, 2025).
His average throughout his career so far is 0.35 (orange line in the graph below), meaning he’s performing well above his career average currently.

Danny Welbeck’s Premier League Goals by Club
To date, Welbeck has played for five different Premier League clubs. Those include Manchester United, Sunderland, Arsenal, Watford and his current club, Brighton.
Across all five clubs, Danny Welbeck has scored a total of 84 Premier League goals as of the time of data collection, which is December 19, 2025.
Welbeck started his career at Manchester United, and many fans might remember when he broke onto the scene as a young lad, scoring some important goals for United. However, in terms of goal contributions, his most successful spell has been at Brighton Hove and Albion.
Since joining Brighton in 2020, he’s scored at least five-goals per season. Last year in the 24-25 season Welbeck scored 10 goals, his highest Premier League goal tally for a single season in his career.
The graph below shows Welbeck’s goals per club so far in his career. His goal contributions for Brighton to date are 40, which is double that of his gaol contributions at Manchester United. The other three clubs he’s played for are Sunderland, Arsenal and Watford, where he’s scored 6, 16 and 2 goals, respectively.

The line graph below shows Welbeck’s different spells at the Premier League clubs he’s played for and the total number of goals scored. A short stint at Sunderland (season long loan) broke up his time at Manchester United.
After United, Welbeck played for Arsenal for five seasons, followed by one season at Watford before joining Brighton where he remains now. The 25-26 seasons is Welbeck’s sixth season at Brighton, tied for the longest he’s stayed at any one club (the other is Manchester United).

In total, Danny Welbeck has scored 84 Premier League goals, which is quite a feat. If he has a few more seasons left in him, cracking the infamous 100-Premier League goals is surely a tally he’d like to achieve (only 35-players have scored 100 or more goals in the modern Premier League).
Danny Welbeck’s Finishing Efficiency in the 2025-26 Season
To date in the 25-26 season, Welbeck’s goal scoring has been clinical. His shot-on-target percentage for the current Premier League season is 41.7%, which is good but it isn’t great. This means out of every 10 shots Welbeck takes, 4.17 are actually on target, troubling the goalkeeper.
This might seem low but Welbeck’s 41.7% shot-on-target average ranks him around 50th in the Premier League currently. For reference, Tyler Adams is currently ranked first with a 75% shot-on-target rating (eight shots, six on target).
As another reference, Haaland is currently ranked 16th best in the Premier League (64 shots, 34 on target).
However, back to Welbeck. What’s interesting about Welbeck this season though is his goals-per-shot ratio. It currently sits at 0.7 or 70%. Meaning, Welbeck is scoring seven goals for every ten shots that are on target.
And that’s exactly what Welbeck has done, scored seven Premier League goals out of the ten shots that he’s had on target so far this 25-26 season. So, while his shots-on-target ratio isn’t anything special, the shots that have been on target have produced considerable goals.
Below is a graph of Welbeck’s goals-per-shot-on-target ratio throughout his career. As you can see, his current 0.7 ratio is well above his average throughout his career.
It will be interesting to see if Welbeck can keep up this strong record as the 25-26 Premier League season progresses.

Where Danny Welbeck Ranks Among Premier League Goal Scorers
Lastly, we wanted to touch on the successful career Danny Welbeck has had (and continues to have). Welbeck should go down as a Premier League legend but for one reason or another, he doesn’t seem to get the praise he should for the contributions he has made.
In a way, he seems to be a bit underrated. Maybe not discussed as much as he should be. He’s not put in the same limelight as other strikers that have come before him.
To reiterate, Welbeck has scored 84 Premier League goals at the time of writing this. That puts Welbeck tied for Premier League goals with Carlos Tevez and Louis Saha.
As seen in the graph below, Welbeck has scored more Premier League goals that the likes of Roberto Firmino, Theo Walcott, Daniel Sturridge, Eric Cantona, Luis Suarez and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

If Welbeck scores one more goal, that will put him even with Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres who are both on 85 Premier League goals. A few more goals will put him in reach of Dennis Bergkamp (87), Marcus Rashford (89), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (91), Ruud van Nistelrooy (95) or Emmanuel Adebayor (97).
While it might have taken Welbeck more minutes and matches to score the number of goals he has, there is no denying the considerable goal contributions he’s made throughout his career.
If he can muster up another 16-goals before he retires, he’ll join the prestigious 100 Premier League Goal club, of which there are only currently 35 players who have managed the feat (modern day Premier League).
Only Chris Wood (Nottingham Forrest) and Callum Wilson (West Ham United) are current players in the Premier League who have more goals than Welbeck. Wood has 91, while Wilson has 92, both are trying to make it to the 100-goal club.
Conclusion: Danny Welbeck’s Legacy in the Premier League
Well, that’s it for this article. In this post, we focused on the long and successful career of Danny Welbeck.
At a current age of 35-years old, Welbeck has made over 379 Premier League appearances across five different clubs, and scored 84 goals. This is all at the time of writing, data as of December 19, 2025.
In terms of goals scored, his current spell at Brighton has been the best. Since joining in the 2020-2021 Premier League season, Welbeck has scored 40 league goals for Brighton, which far exceeds the number of goals he’s scored for any other club played at.
Furthermore, in the current 25-26 Premier League season, his goal form is on track to be his best yet. This was outlined in his 0.7 goals per shot-on-target ratio discussed above.
If he can continue his current form for the rest of the season, he will continue to knock on the door of the 100 Premier League goals scored club. A feat that few can achieve but one that is attainable for Welbeck if he can continue to play in England’s top division for another season or two.
Additionally, Welbeck’s impressive start to the 25-26 Premier League season has brought murmurs of a call back to the England squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in June. While that might be a long shot, his current form makes it hard to believe that his name hasn’t been discussed by Thomas Tuchel and his staff.
One last fun fact for Welbeck is about his discipline. He’s only received 24-yellow cards throughout his professional career, which averages about 1.3 yellow cards per season. Welbeck has never received a red card in the Premier League.
What are your thoughts on Danny Welbeck? Do you think he’s received the credit and praise that he deserves, based on his career longevity and number of goals scored? Do you think he should get a call up to join England’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup?
